Our History
In 1985 Burnell & Theresa Hass purchased the former Harrison House Restaurant. Following a complete renovation it became the Hass Funeral Home. Burnell and Theresa’s mission was to provide the highest quality service at the most affordable prices. They gained the trust and friendship of the community through the years and the Hass name is now known throughout the area for superior service. As family, we take pride in the fact that Burnell & Theresa came to Burlington knowing very few people and built such a respected funeral home.
Adam Thielen began assisting his grandparents in 1992 while
still in high school. The knowledge gained from his grandfather
remains a priceless benefit to the families served by the
Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. Following the death of his grandfather,
Adam’s ownership of the funeral home became official
on July 1st, 2004. Adam and wife, Theresa, began a complete
facelift of the facility shortly after taking ownership.
Outside, the sidewalks in the front of the building have
been replaced, the bay windows in front of the chapel have
been replaced, parking has been expanded to maximize parking
stalls and re-asphalting has been completed. Inside, all
new carpet, paint, draperies, and furniture create a comfortable
atmosphere.
When people visit our funeral home when there is no service
or visitation taking place, they usually notice a big screen
television and ask about its purpose. We offer photo tribute
videos for every family we serve. We have two plasma TVs
in the Chapel. We are very excited about
this cutting-edge industry advancement and have fully embraced
the technology because we have experienced the benefits to
the family for whom we’ve cared. We use pictures provided
by the family to make a video on DVD. We repeat the video
all day during the visitation. You can always take home a
memorial folder… but
the music, photos and emotions captured by the videos can
truly bring about memories that are impossible to cultivate
using only the printed pieces.
2005 marks our 20 th anniversary and we are happy to show our commitment to the families that we are honored to serve. Placing your most prized possession, your loved one, in someone else’s care is a very important decision and we want to provide the highest level of quality service. We take the extra time to get to know our families and take care of every detail in a professional, caring manner which we know you deserve.

and, occasionally, tease them. We remember his passing

Founder
Theresa Hass is a 1946 graduate from Immaculate Conception High School and Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, IA. Theresa was a Nurse at several care facilities. In 1985, along with her husband, Burnell, they founded the Hass Funeral Home in Burlington. Theresa helped in most aspects of the funeral home. She especially helped many grieving widows as she had a morning coffee “club” that would meet at the funeral home periodically. She felt that the listening sessions were a priceless time for the families she met with. Today some of the same people meet at Theresa’s private residence. She continues to attend visitations and funerals on a limited basis.
