Carmen Guzman, 77, of Burlington, died at 7:53 AM Monday, October 12, 2009, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born July 18, 1932, in Fort Madison, IA, she was the daughter of Lucio and Josepha Diaz Puga. In 1950 she married Caracci "Louis" Guzman in Fort Madison. They had seven children including: Robert, Dan, John, Vicki, Barbara, Brenda, and Pat. |
She was a homemaker and her children remember her wake up call every morning of "Rise and Shine!". Later she worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for several years.
She was a graduate of Fort Madison Catholic High School and had earned her associates degree from Southeastern Community College.
She enjoyed crocheting gifts for her family, yard sales, reading, and making cards on the computer.

Those left to honor her memory include three sons, Robert (Becky) Guzman of Loveland, CO, Dan (Debbie) Guzman of Burlington, and John Guzman of Davenport; four daughters, Vickie (Dennis Wilson) Guzman of Iowa City, Barbara (Randy) Frerichs of Davenport, Brenda Guzman of Davenport, and Pat Guzman of Burlington; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry (Chelo) Puga of Fort Madison; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special companion of 35 years, Max Bechtel of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandsons, Matthew and Jacob, one great-grandson, Christopher, two brothers in infancy, one brother, Pedro, and four sisters, Mary, Inés, Seferina, and Lupe. |
As per her request, cremation has been accorded.
A Celebration of Life for Carmen will be from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established for Great River Home Health Care and Hospice.
