Yevonne Carter Helling, 79, of Burlington, died at 9:10 AM Sunday, October 18, 2009, at the Great River Medical Center - Klein Center in Burlington. |
Born September 24, 1930, in Des Moines, IA, she was the daughter of Pearl Jefferson and Elizabeth Josephine Dean Carter. On November 4, 1950, she married Edwin Morris Helling in Fort Madison, Iowa. |
Yevonne owned and operated her own craft shop, Dolly's House, in Bentonsport, Iowa.
She was a 1948 graduate of Fort Madison High School.
She was of the Catholic faith. She was a member of the Red Hat Club of Van Buren County, Quilter's Group in Keosauqua, Lion's Club in Keosauqua, and the Alpha Delphians in Van Buren County. She enjoyed quilting, crafts, sewing, gardening, baking, reading, listening to bluegrass music, traveling, and playing four point pitch. |
Survivors include her husband, Edwin; three daughters, Nancy (Vince) Moser of Burlington, Cynthia (Dan Eilers) Helling of Macomb, IL, Amy (Thurman Purdiman Jr.) Krogmeier of Keokuk, IA; one son Ron (Jo) Helling of West Burlington; 10 grandchildren, Cassie (Todd) Coombs, Carrie Moser, Jason (Dagmar) Eilers, Elizabeth Eilers, Josh (Shannon) O'Dear, Andy (Sarah) O'Dear, Luke (Tarah) Helling, Jill Helling, Molly (Andrew) LeMaster, and Joseph Krogmeier; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Faye Pottorf of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. |
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Helling will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating. As per Yevonne's request, cremation will be accorded after the funeral service. Following the funeral service, a time of food and fellowship will be held in the Hass-Thielen Community Room.
A memorial has been established for the Izaak Walton League. |
