Donald Alvin Malcom, 82, of Burlington, died at 2:20 PM Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born February 2, 1927, in Oakville, he was the son of Raymond D. and Martha "Mattie" Johnson Malcom. On August 9, 1950, he married Marilyn Danover in Wapello. |
Donald retired from Iowa Southern Utilities in 1989 after 20 years of working in the Meter Department. He also worked at Merchant Wholesale.
He was a 1945 graduate of Oakville High School in Oakville.
He was a 48 year member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a 40 plus year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie 150. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He loved fishing, hunting and enjoyed golfing, bowling, and especially loved the outdoors. |
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; one daughter, Joyce (Jerry) Heckenberg of Burlington; one son, Mark (Roberta Cores-Malcom) Malcom of West Point, UT; four grandchildren, Ryan (Bonnie) Underwood, Tim Heckenberg, Brad Malcom and Mark Malcom; one brother, Wayne (Mary) Malcom of Camanche, IA; one sister, Norma (Bob) Perron of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers. |
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Malcom will be 11:00 AM Friday, November 20, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Debra L. Miller-Kinney officiating. As per Donald's request cremation will be accorded after the funeral service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established. |
