Merlin E. Riepe, 76, of Mediapolis, died at 6:58 PM Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born July 17, 1933, in Winfield, IA, he was the son of Silas and Dolly Gesling Riepe. On June 30, 1956, he married Roberta J. Cavin in Wilton Junction, Iowa.

Merlin was a diesel mechanic for Schili Trucking and Umthun Trucking.
He was a 1951 graduate of Mediapolis High School. He attended Burlington Junior College.
He was a U.S. Marine serving in the Korean War.
He was a very avid reader, loved farming and gardening. He really enjoyed his morning coffee club with his friends at the Apron Strings in Mediapolis.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta J. Riepe; daughter, Cindy Henry of Burlington; son, Robert (Sharon) Riepe of Mediapolis; daughter Melinda (Brian) Cumpton of Burlington; three grandchildren, Megan (Darin) Schlatter, Mark (Dana) Buster, and Marissa (Patrick) Jennings; six great-grandchildren, Trevor, Bailey, Chloe, Tessa, Kinsey, and Cavin; three sisters, Marcella Krouse of Mediapolis, Geraldine (John) Petersen of Burlington, and Gertrude Westervelt of the Quad Cities; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Wahneta Goble.

As per the request of Mr. Riepe, there will be no visitation or services.
Cremation has been accorded.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Mediapolis Public Library.
