Donald James Knottnerus, 78, of Burlington, died at 11:05 PM Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 20, 1931, in Washington County, IA, he was the son of Rudolph R. and Hilda Jenny Prymek Knottnerus. On September 12, 1954, he married Alyce Marie Bennett in Wapello. She died April 21, 1994.

Don worked for 10 years as a truck driver at Darling and Company and 21 years for Pak A Way Container Service.
He was an avid race fan. He worked as a crew chief on car #36 driven by Bob Lane and John Crear at 34 Raceway for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Latoska "LuAnn" Olson of Burlington and Katrina (Mark) Campbell of Memphis, TN; one son, David (Beth) Knottnerus of Mendota, IL; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Jay) Lachenberg of Burlington, Amanda Knottnerus of Burlington, Alexis Knottnerus and Drew Knottnerus of Mendota, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, Randy and two brothers.

As per the request of Mr. Knottnerus, cremation has been accorded.
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The Memorial Service for Mr. Knottnerus will be 6:00 PM, Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen Community Room following the service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Carman Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
