Martha May Wilson, 77, of Burlington, died at 5:56 PM Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 16, 1932, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Walter and Mary (Schilb) Schweickhardt. At the age of 14 she was raised by her grandmother, Caroline Christine Biklen Schweickhardt. On September 2, 1956, she married Jim R. Wilson in Burlington. |
Martha had worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 10 years and was a homemaker and caregiver.
She was a 1950 graduate of Burlington High School.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She was active in Questers, President of Shawkaw, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star E.C. Blackmar Chapter 306, White Shriners, and the Des Moines County Historical Society where she was on the board. She was a Cub Scout den mother and was very active in all the children's school activities. She had a 50 year membership in Players Workshop and did season ticket sales for over 35 years. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, working in the yard, babysitting her grandchildren, shopping, especially for antiques, and traveling. |
Survivors include her husband, Jim of Burlington; two daughters, Lisa (Tom) Horner of Hiawatha, IA, and Jennifer (Scott) Bell of Burlington; four grandchildren, Jessica Bell, Amanda Wilson, Christina Bell, and Ashley Bell; three stepgrandchildren, Dawn Rohrer, Laura Benz, and Rachel Smith; one daughter-in-law, Pam Wilson of Burlington; one aunt, Eleanor Denning of Houghton, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, one son, Jeffrey Wilson, one brother, one half brother, her twin brother, and one half sister.

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Wilson will be 10:30 AM Monday, February 8, 2010, at the Zion United Church of Christ with Reverend Jane A.Willan officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and Zion United Church of Christ. |
