Cheryl Joyce Hightower, 49, of Burlington, died at 3:24 PM Sunday, February 28, 2010, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born May 27, 1960, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ralph Alan and Joy Eileen Davis Smith. On December 11, 1983, she married Kenneth W. Hightower in Burlington.

Cheryl had worked at Titus Pizzeria, Gator's, and Spencers in Westland Mall. She was mostly a homemaker.
She was of Christian faith. She enjoyed making arts and crafts, picture collages, boating, and spending time with her grandson, Trevor. She was very proud of her son who had served in Iraq.

Survivors include her husband, Kenny of Burlington; her mother, Joy Smith of West Burlington; one son, David (Kristin) Hightower of Burlington; one daughter, Melissa (Jace Skalinski) Hightower of Burlington; one grandson, Trevor Skalinski; one brother, Larry Smith of Burlington; one sister, Connie (Mark) Smith of Nashville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Hightower will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Moberg officiating. As per her request, cremation will be accorded after the funeral service. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society and Southeastern Renal Dialysis.
