Bertha May Walker, 98, of Burlington, died at 6:25 PM Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Great River Medical Center - Klein Center in Burlington.

Born June 20, 1911, in Middletown, she was the daughter of Harvey Osborn and Annabelle Burkhiser Courtney. On May 18, 1940, she married Jesse James Walker in Hannibal, MO. He died December 25, 1976.

Bertha worked as a Nanny, at the Burlington Soap Factory, and at Hotel Burlington.
She graduated from Burlington High School in 1930.
She enjoyed her cats, crocheting, gardening, and spending time with friends, especially Jim and Monica Mesler and their children, Ann Kirk, Jean Mesler, Thomas Mesler, and Patrick Mesler who were like family to her. |
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Helen Courtney, of Galesburg, IL and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, LaVerne Courtney, and one sister, Mildred McCune. |
The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Walker will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Tyrone Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Burlington Area Homeless Shelter and the Des Moines County Humane Society. |
