William Gene Sloan, 79, of Middletown, died at 12:05 PM Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born June 1, 1930, in Bloomfield, IA, he was the son of William Thomas and Mabel Eunice Deen Sloan. On October 9, 1961, he married Mitsuko Iwai in Yokohama, Japan. She died April 5, 2007. |
Gene was a government contractor, had worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, at a gas station, and installed siding.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War building bridges.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, collecting Popular Mechanics Magazine, and animals. In his younger years, he collected antique cars and would fix them to run. |
Survivors include one sister, Patricia Kahler of Brawley, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two half-sisters. |
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM with the family to receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Sloan will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Tyrone Henderson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Middletown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
