Reverend Ray D. Mixer, 84, of Burlington, died at 8:45 PM Friday, May 21, 2010, at the Great River Medical Center- Klein Center in Burlington.

Born August 13, 1925, in Adams County, IL, he was the son of Albert and Vera Brown Mixer. On March 2, 1947, he married Ella Marie Poe in Wever, IA. She died July 22, 2007. |
Ray worked at Du Pont in Ft. Madison for 32 1/2 years. He was an ordained minister for the Church of God (IHP) serving in Iowa and Missouri.
He was a U.S. Army Airforce Veteran, serving during World War II .
He was a member of the Church of God (IHP) in Ft. Madison, and a lifetime member of the Ft. Madison V.F.W. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing roses. He enjoyed word search puzzles, fishing, hunting, traveling, collecting clocks, eating and sharing popcorn. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen M. (David) Watterson of Burlington and one son, Stephen R. (Judy) Mixer of Burlington; six grandchildren, Drs. Brian (Jennifer) Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Mark (Suzi) Watterson, Marla (B.J.) Moore, Brian (Lori) Mixer, and Brent (Melissa) Mixer; 12 great grandchildren, Ella, A.J., Brianna, Scott, Alyssa, Caleb, Hope, Zachary, Hannah, Megan, Austin, and Micah; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents two brothers and one sister. |
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Mixer will be 10:00 AM Friday, May 28, 2010, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Tyrone Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice. |
