Douglas E. Poffenbarger, 78, of Burlington, died at 3:58 PM Sunday, June 13, 2010, at his home.

Born September 20, 1931, in New Boston, IL, he was the son of Richard Earl and Letha Houston Poffenbarger. On June 6, 1954, he married Viola L. Patton at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington. She died September 5, 2007.

Douglas had worked for J.I. Case Co. for over 30 years before retiring in 1996. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War in Korea. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and of the VFW Post 10102. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Burlington Bees baseball fan. He enjoyed traveling, and enjoyed spending time with his family, and friends, especially his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Michael) Holeton of Franklin, TN; Linda Svoboda of Topeka, KS; two sons, Jim (Tracy) Poffenbarger and Wayne Poffenbarger both of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kay Mask of Amarillo, TX; Gretchen Mitchell of Newton, IA and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, one grandaughter, Sarah, and one brother, Virgil.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The Funeral Service for Mr. Poffenbarger will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Trevor Davis officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
