Donald Robert Kurtz, 85, of Burlington, died at 12:21 PM Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Great River Medical Center - Klein Center in Burlington.

Born November 16, 1924, in Oakville, IA, he was the son of Lyle Thomas and Ethyle Elizabeth Wykert Kurtz. On March 4, 1943, he married Mildred Brockett in Wynne, Arkansas. She died on October 11, 2002.

Donald worked at J.I Case Co., Mid-America Transportation Company, and the Burlington Medical Center.
He was a 1942 graduate of Oakville High School.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.
He was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed walking his dogs in the parks and caring for them. He also enjoyed the Mississippi River. He was an avid reader, and kept up on current events.

Survivors include one brother, H. Wayne (Donna) Swafford of Rowlett, TX; two nieces, Lori Swafford and Amanda Swafford; one nephew, Scott Swafford; and several great nieces and nephews; cousins and many friends.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle Kurtz and Ethyle Swafford, and one nephew.

The funeral service for Mr. Kurtz will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. Interment will be in Wapello Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Sotos Syndrome Support Association P.O. Box 4626 Wheaton, IL 60189.
