Lyle Eugene Brandstetter, 89, of Burlington, died at 7:25 AM Monday, June 28, 2010, at the Great River Medical Center - Klein Center in Burlington.

Born August 13, 1920, in Milford, IA, he was the son of Joseph Henry and Leta Mason Brandstetter. On February 2, 1946, he married Mary Helen Hasten in Burlington. |
Lyle worked at White House, Gustafson, and Sunshine Dairies. He had retired from the former Burlington Medical Center.
He graduated in 1939 as valedictorian of Bode High School.
He was a lifetime member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he served as a deacon, a trustee, and Sunday school treasurer, and participated in the CROP Corn Project. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed working on old cars, gardening, especially tomatoes, and keeping up daily on the weather. He especially enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters, Sherry (John Sr.) Wolfe and Cynthia (Darrell) Bachtell, both of Burlington; three sons, Joseph (Beth) Brandstetter of Parker, CO, David (Beth) Brandstetter of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Todd (Danette) Brandstetter of Burlington; ten grandchildren, Heather (Jerry) Hayes, Julie (Jonathan) Zimmer, Dustin (Jennifer) Bachtell, Amanda (Steve) Reid, John (Rosalynn) Wolfe, Jr., John Brandstetter, Laura (Anthony) Hart, Jaina Brandstetter, Erin Brandstetter, and Danielle Brandstetter; 12 great-grandchildren, J.R. Hayes, Jacob Bachtell, Marcus Lane, Marissa Hayes, Ryan Reid, Rylee Reid, Braden Bachtell, Kennedy Bachtell, Jonah Zimmer, Gavin Hayes, Winnifred Wolfe, and Jesse Zimmer; two sisters, Eva Peterson and Neva Hauer, both of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. |
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM Friday, July 2, 2010 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Brandstetter will be 1:30 PM Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor D. Dean Benton officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) following the interment.
